Quantum-LEAP Ambassadors
IMOD is making fantastic advances in the quantum sciences that will have broad societal impacts, changing everything from how we light our buildings, to how we communicate and compute. Central to the IMOD mission is to communicate these exciting discoveries to broad audiences, in schools and public forums. The work we are doing will help energize the United States scientific leadership, and we are committed to developing ways to inform our citizens.
The Quantum Learning and Engagement Ambassadors Program (or Quantum-LEAP for short) is a formalized, research-driven ambassador program for how IMOD performs outreach. IMOD Community members are trained to be Quantum-LEAP ambassadors. We have developed a range of class-room interactive packets that include all the slides, information, and materials required for folks to go out and discuss some of the complex core concepts of the quantum sciences. Through training in communication techniques our ambassadors can take these Quantum Activity Kits out to schools and public events and provide insight into our cutting-edge discoveries.
Interested in getting involved?
We are in the process of compiling the Quantum Activity Kits in order to make them available for the public to download as “Grab-and-Go” lesson plans, over at the Quantum Education Portal. Even better, contact us and request a session for one of our ambassadors to visit your school. We are always looking to connect with interested partners!
Looking for more? Great! Check out some of the ways in which we can connect with you below. Have other ideas or questions? Fantastic! Contact us to find out more about how we can work with you to help folks learn more about the quantum sciences
Classroom Visits
Invite a Quantum-LEAP Ambassador to visit your classroom or an exhibit at your school STEM fair. This is available locally (max 1hr drive) from our participating institutions (You can find out more about IMOD Institutions on our Team page; Check out the virtual option below if you are further away). The Ambassadors could lead a demonstration in a classroom or STEM fair, a hands-on activity, or simply provide your students with a chance to meet a scientist and hear about their research career. Contact us now to find out more about how we can engage.
Virtual Meet a Scientist
Schedule a Quantum-LEAP Ambassador from chemistry, physics, or computer engineering to speak to your class about the quantum sciences and potential future societal impacts. Our volunteer ambassadors can speak to a range of topics, or simply participate in an interactive Q&A session about what higher education and research in STEM is all about. We can use conferencing software of your choice.
The steps are:
- Contact us and please include any details about timing and topics.
- We will contact you to sort out the logistics.
- The Ambassador will contact you to confirm the details of the event and answer any questions you may have.
- Prepare your students with any background science or context you think will be appropriate. Have them think ahead about some questions they might ask.
- Introduce the Quantum LEAP Ambassador and remind the class how this relates to them.
Contact us now to find out more about how we can engage.
Research Lab Tour or Workshop
Quantum-LEAP Ambassadors can lead a tour or a workshop at, or near, their labs. Some labs have limitations on minors entering the research space, but can arrange a presentation and building tour. This kind of experience can provide valuable insight for future quantum scientists about what research looks like at leading academic institutions. Contact us now to find out more about how we can engage.
Incorporate Quantum Science into your Classroom
Coming Soon! Download a Quantum Activity Kit. These quantum science related lesson plans include slides and details and use inexpensive tools and materials that can be ordered online. Quantum-LEAP Ambassadors can be invited to attend the lesson and support delivery. Find out more about the different kits available over on the Quantum Education Portal.
