Broader Impacts
The vision of IMOD is to bring together researchers from across multiple disciplines using state-of-the-art theoretical and experimental tools to develop understanding that enables the synthesis of transformative technologies and materials that fundamentally change how we interact with light.
Through the development of atomically precise semiconductor materials and scalable manufacturing processes we aim to unleash future generations of electronics and optoelectronics technologies designed and manufactured in the USA.
Critical to the success of these goals is the training and development of our team. We will create a diverse, agile and well-rounded generation of scientists and engineers to lead the U.S. to technological prominence through interdisciplinary team collaboration.
Central to the IMOD mission is the effective sharing of knowledge, both within the IMOD team to foster and enhance collaboration, and more broadly to the society at large. The team will develop a portfolio of education and outreach programs that will enable a number of knowledge transfer mechanisms.
To achieve these goals we have designed programs for collaborative integrative research, education, broadening participation, and knowledge transfer. These features converge to establish a balanced development of the IMOD team, expanding skillsets beyond scientific and engineering expertise to ensure that alumni are effective communicators, well versed in interpersonal skills, and informed on the value and importance of an inclusive and diverse workforce.
