Yury gave a fascinating lecture entitled “Optical Properties and Applications of a Large Family of Metallic 2D Nanosheets – MXenes,” showcasing how atomic-level control over composition and structure enables remarkable tunability of optical properties. From plasmonic resonances and epsilon-near-zero behavior to photodetectors, optical modulators, electron transport layers, and tunable photonics, the talk highlighted why MXenes are becoming one of the most exciting material platforms in nanophotonics.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our IMOD trainees to hear firsthand from one of the pioneers of the field and to discuss how advances in 2D materials are opening new directions for manipulating light at the nanoscale.
