About IMOD

Welcome to the NSF Center Integration of Modern Optoelectronic Materials on Demand (IMOD), a United State National Science Foundation Science and Technology Center (STC) supported by NSF grant DMR-2019444. Our mission is to transform conventional and quantum optoelectronics through the development of atomically-precise semiconductor materials and additive manufacturing processes.

IMOD brings together more than 100 researchers from across 14 academic institutions. IMOD has built an extensive network of collaboration with external partners in industry, education, and outreach. We are training the next generation of quantum scientists and engineers to transform the way we communicate and compute. We do this by developing not only the specialized technical expertise of our members, but also their professional skills, in teamwork, communication, and interdisciplinary problem solving.

To achieve this, we have built a dynamic ecosystem of research teams and a portfolio of education and outreach programs that emphasizes the development of expertise within IMOD, and the dissemination of our discoveries to a broad range of audience.

We believe that our work in optoelectronics has the potential to significantly impact society, leading to exponential increases in computing power, the development of perfectly secure quantum computation, and future optoelectronics applications. Leadership in this area of disruptive technologies could provide national success and develop technologies and jobs that will underpin and ensure the health, safety, and prosperity of future generations.
