In 2024 the National Academy of Sciences elected 120 members and 24 international members in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. Included in this cohort was IMOD Member Mercouri Kanatzidis (Northwestern University), whose contributions in the synthesis and study of new classes of materials set him apart. The work of the Kanatzidis group has led to the discovery of groundbreaking materials that have found multiple applications in the energy sector. An example of his impact in these areas is that Mercouri recently had a mineral named after him.

Congratulations Mercouri!
