Arka Majumdar, an IMOD Faculty Member based at the University of Washington, was recently named a 2024 Optica Fellow. Optica recognized his pioneering contributions in the field of low-power optical information science and imaging, enabled by low-dimensional materials, nanophotonoics, and meta-optics.

Optica, formerly known as the Optical Society of America (OSA), recognizes Optica members who have served with distinction in the advancement of optics and photonics, and have acheived significant scientific accomplishment in the advancement of optics and photonics.

The bylaws of the society allow only 10% of its membership to be designated as an Optica Fellow. With this honor Arka joins other IMOD faculty members Kai-Mei Fu (2023), Cherie Kagan, (2022), Lih Lin (2020), Seth Marder (2004), Vinod Menon (2020), Matthew Pelton (2021), and Edo Waks (2016).
